Ralph Harris Smith, Sr.

Goldsboro – Mr. Ralph Harris Smith, Sr., 84, of 405 Park Avenue, died Friday at his residence.

A native of Sampson County, he was the son of the late John Lemley Smith and Louise Wolfe Smith. Mr. Smith was the owner and operator of Wayne Smith Feed and Seed Store in Goldsboro and was a member of First Baptist Church for 61 years, where he served as deacon, choir member, usher and on numerous committees. Mr. Smith was a member of the Golden “K” Kiwanis Club for 22 years and the Travelers Protection Association.

Graveside services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Willow Dale Cemetery with Dr. Glenn Phillips officiating.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Catherine Vail Smith; his daughter, Clarkie Perkins and husband Berky of Goldsboro; a daughter-in-law, Bunny Smith of Goldsboro; a son-in-law, Robert “Pee Wee” Thompson; his brother, J.L. Smith Jr. of Mount Olive; his sister, Doris Lee Pratt of Knoxville, TN; seven grandchildren, Catherine Winstead and husband Gregory, Carol Alton and husband Brent, Connie Skinner and husband Scott, Jennifer Perkins, Jessy Ann Perkins, Tammy Smith Wallace and husband Terry and Courtney Smith; and three great-grandchildren, Joshua Wallace, Catherine Skinner and Jackson Alton.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Catherine Louise (Kaye) Smith Thompson and his son, Ralph H. (Pete) Smith, Jr.

The family will receive friends Sunday following the service at his residence.
