William Henry Smith

Eureka – William Henry “Billy” Smith, of 452 Bogue Road, beloved
husband, father and grandfather passed from this life to the nexton
on Monday, May 24, 2004, after prolonged heart complications.
Mr. Smith was born in Wayne County to the late Eli Turlington and
Retha Blow Smith on August 19, 1932. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in
Biology and Social Studies from Atlantic Christian College in 1954.
As senior superlative in college, Mr. Smith was voted Best Looking
Man on campus.
Mr. Smith attended Aycock’s Primitive Baptist Church. He was active
in the agricultural community. Mr. Smith was a life-long farmer and
cattleman. In addition to farming, Mr. Smith worked at New Planters
Warehouse in Wilson and served on the Advisory Council of Charles B.
Aycock High School. He was a member of the North Carolina Farm
Bureau and the Wayne County Livestock Association. After his
retirement in 2001, Mr. Smith enjoyed planting and harvesting a
large garden, which he shared with his neighbors.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 7:00 PM at Seymour
Funeral Home Chapel with Elder John Hess and Elder Jimmy Aycock
officiating. Interment will be Thursday at 11:00 AM in Elmwood
Cemetery, Fremont.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Anne Mizelle Smith, a daughter
and son-in-law, Patricia and Wayne Jackson of Fremont, a daughter,
Billie Smith of Goldsboro and two grandchildren, Matthew Jackson and
Jenny Jackson, both of Fremont; a brother and sister-in-law, Eli T.
“Pete” and Jean S. Smith of Eureka, and a sister and brother-in-law,
Sedalia S. Green and David Green of Eureka.
He will be remembered by countless friends.
Flowers are welcome although memorials may be made to Aycock’s
Primitive Baptist Church Building Fund, 445 Reid Town Road, Fremont,
NC 27830
The family will receive friends immediately following the service
and other times at the residence.
