Barbara Selby Stevens

Dudley
– Barbara Selby Stevens, 84 died at her home Friday after a long
illness.
Born February 28, 1924, in Goldsboro, N.C., Mrs. Stevens taught
seventh and eight grades for many years in the public schools of
eastern North Carolina and retired in 1982 from Brogden Middle
School. She was a graduate of Brogden High School and East Carolina
Teachers College.
She was a devout member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church and was
active for many years in the Adult Choir, Altar Guild, Episcopal
Church Women and church outreach activities, including the Soup
Kitchen.
She is survived by her daughter, Agnes Corinne Stevens of Dudley,
N.C.; her son, Henry Benjamin Stevens and wife Betsy Lloyd Stevens
of Ash, N.C.; her grandchildren, Benjamin Lee Stevens and Ada Marie
Stevens of Ash; two brothers, Henry Blount Selby and wife Dorothy of
Brentwood, Tenn.; and Robert Cook Selby and wife Lorna of Bowie, Md.
She was preceded in death by her sister Marjorie Selby Carney, her
brother Talbot Rayl Selby, and her parents Mr. and Mrs. Henry Cook
Selby.
Her funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Stephen’s
Episcopal Church. Burial will follow immediately at Wayne Memorial
Park.
The family will receive friends at the home, 3784 US 117 South
Alternate, Dudley, Sunday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in her name to St.
Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 200 N. James Street, Goldsboro, NC
27530.
