Georgia T. Tanner

Goldsboro
– Mrs. Georgia Turnipseed Tanner, News-Argus columnist and widow of
Hal H. Tanner, Sr., died Friday at her home in Goldsboro. Her
husband had been publisher of the News-Argus from 1953 until 1983.
That position has been held by their son, Hal Tanner, Jr., since
that time.
Funeral services will be held at First Presbyterian Church in
Goldsboro on Monday at 2 p.m. with Rev. William Hufham officiating.
Burial will follow at Willow Dale Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Hal
Tanner III, Greg Robbins, Dr. Brian Stuber, David (Trey) Gurley III,
Cooper Edmondson, Jr., and Daniel LaFar.
Mrs. Tanner was a native of Maysville, Ky., the youngest of four
daughters of George and Ginny Turnipseed.
She is survived by her son, Hal Tanner, Jr., and his wife, Linda of
Goldsboro; her daughter, Emily Tanner Moore, and her husband, Robert
D. Moore of Charlotte; six grandchildren, Hal Tanner III, and his
wife, Leigh; Lisa Tanner Robbins, and her husband, Greg; Georgia
Tanner Gurley, and her husband, Trey; Catherine Tanner Stuber, and
her husband, Brian; Virginia Moore LaFar, and her husband, Daniel;
and Cynthia Moore; and eleven great-grandchildren, Georgia Elizabeth
Tanner, Thomas Tanner Robbins, Hal Tanner IV, Catherine Grace
Robbins, Margaret Maxwell Tanner, Mary Crawford Tanner, Emily LaFar,
David E. Gurley IV, Joseph Benjamin Stuber, Taylor LaFar and Georgia
Louise Gurley; and Fannie Holmes who served Mrs. Tanner as special
caretaker for 33 years.

Goldsboro, NC 27533.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at
Seymour Funeral Home.
