Grover Cleveland Thompson, Jr.

Pikeville – Mr. Grover Cleveland “G.C.” Thompson, Jr., 77, of 5288
Hwy. 117 North, died Friday at the North Carolina Memorial Hospital
at Chapel Hill.
A native of Wayne County, he was the son of the late Grover
Cleveland Thompson, Sr. and Laeura Stith Thompson. Mr. Thompson was
a retired barber and was a member of St. Joseph United Methodist
Church. He served his country in the United States Coast Guard
during World War II and was a member of the Harmony Lodge #340 A.F.&A.M.
for 51 years. Mr. Thompson was an avid golfer and was a member of
the Elks Lodge #139 B.P.O.E. He will be remembered as a devoted
husband, father and grandfather.
Funeral services will be Sunday at 4 p.m. at St. Joseph United
Methodist Church with Rev. Paul Dunham officiating. Interment will
be at Pikeville Cemetery.
Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife of 57 years, Wilma Lewis
Thompson; a daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Gerald Cannon of
Pikeville; a son and daughter-in-law, Cleve and Sharon Thompson of
Fremont; two granddaughters, Michelle Hill and husband Johnny of
Goldsboro and Stephanie Cannon of Pikeville; two grandsons, Jason
Thompson of Goldsboro and Scott Thompson of Fremont; a brother, Buck
Thompson of Pikeville; and his sisters, Margie Rich of Kinston and
Mary Bradley of Needham, Mass.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Deorman Thompson and James
Oscar Thompson; and his sisters, Dixie Thompson Barnes and Louise
Thompson Williams.

Methodist Church, P.O. Box 43, Pikeville, NC 27863.
The family will receive friends Sunday following the service in the
church fellowship hall and other times at his residence.
