Willis Boykin Underwood, Jr.

Goldsboro – Mr. Willis Boykin “Bill” Underwood, Jr., 76, of 1117 Park Ave. B, died Saturday, February 22, 2003, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

A native of Mecklenburg County, he was the son of the late Willis Boykin Underwood, Sr. and Helen Hosier Underwood and was married to the late Mina Weil Underwood. He was a member of the Class of 1947 at the Virginia Military Institute. Mr. Underwood was the former owner and chief executive officer with Underwood-Dawson Insurance. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and was a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held Monday, February 24, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church.

Mr. Underwood is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth Bridgers and husband, John of Goldsboro and Mina Wooten of Charlotte; a son, Willis B. Underwood III and wife, Wooten of Goldsboro; a sister, Margaret H. Underwood of Greensboro; and six grandchildren, Mina Bridgers, John Willis Bridgers, Elizabeth Wooten, Robert Wooten, Warner Underwood and Willis B. Underwood IV.
