Mavis Lewis Uzzell

Mrs. Mavis Lewis Uzzell, 92, of Tallahassee, Florida and formerly of Goldsboro, died Wednesday at Tallahassee Community Hospital.


A native of Pender County, she was the daughter of the late David and Ida Scott Lewis and was the widow of Thomas William Uzzell. Mrs. Uzzell was a former cosmetic buyer with Weil’s Department Store and the former president of the Goldsboro Women’s Club. She served on the board of the Wayne County Historical Association and Museum and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Goldsboro.


Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Glenn Phillips officiating. Burial followed in Willow Dale Cemetery.


Mrs. Uzzell is survived by her daughter, Ann Armbrister; a sister, Breta Jackson; a sister-in-law, Pattie Moore; and several nieces and nephews including Bryan Sutton.
