Sam L. Watson, Sr.

Goldsboro – Mr. Sam L. Watson, Sr., 82, died Monday, December 23, 2002. He was born in Wayne County to the late Addison and Amelia Watson.

Sam graduated from Goldsboro High School where he lettered in basketball and baseball. He owned and operated Foodland grocery stores, Southern Vending Company and Southern Wholesale Company and was later a sales representative for North Carolina Natural Gas Company. He has owned and operated Carolina Heating and Air Conditioning Company for the last 40 years. He served as a baseball scout for the New York Giants and was a member of the Golden “K” Kiwanis Club in Goldsboro. Sam was a charter member of the Northview Christian Church.

Mr. Watson is survived by his wife of 62 years, Edna M. Watson; a son, Sam L. Watson Jr. of Raleigh; a daughter, Betty Grechanik of Alexandria, VA; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 7 until 9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.
