Ida Ethel Hodge Williams


Goldsboro – Mrs. Ida Ethel Hodge Williams, 79, of 904 S. Taylor Street, died Thursday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

A native of Kenly, NC, she was the daughter of the late Alvin and Ida Woodard Hodge and was the first Executive Director of Wayne County Mental Health. Mrs. Williams was the president of Governor Charles B. Aycock Birthplace Commission and was an officer of the Mayor’s Committee for the Handicapp. She also was a charter board member of the Wayne County Historical Association. As a member of First Baptist Church, she served as a committee member of finance and pulpit, served as church historian, was a circle leader, chairperson of community mission’s and served as Youth Sunday School and Bible School Director. Mrs. Williams was a member of Cherry Hospital Advocacy Committee and was an active member of the Wayne County Democratic Women’s Association. She was honored by the Goldsboro Jaycees as the first Jaycee Woman of the Year.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 PM at First Baptist Church with Dr. Glenn Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in Willow Dale Cemetery.

Mrs. Williams is survived by her husband, James Louis Williams, Sr.; a daughter, Paula W. Boseman of Goldsboro; a son, Louis Williams Jr. of New Bern; a brother, Ray K. Hodge of Smithfield; a brother-in-law, Henry Marshall of Raleigh; and two grandchildren, Brennen Boseman and Jenna Boseman.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Albert Haywood Hodge and James Allen Hodge and sisters, Glenda Hodge Norton and Arzelle Hodge Marshall.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 125 S. John Street, Goldsboro, NC 27534 to be used for Christian and Music education.

The family will receive friends Saturday at Seymour Funeral Home from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and other times at the residence.
