Obituary for Charles Edward Boltinhouse, Jr.

Charles Edward Boltinhouse, Jr., 80, passed away on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by his family. Charles was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend whose love for life and others was apparent to all who met him.

Charles was born in Cumberland County on August 2, 1937 to the late Charles Boltinhouse, Sr. and Postoria Dowd Boltinhouse. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War as well as in Turkey, France and Germany.

Charles began his career in law enforcement as a police officer with the Goldsboro Police Department. Charles served as Captain of the Goldsboro Police Department before his retirement after 25 years of service. He was a member of Adamsville Baptist Church. Charles was an avid sports fan. He loved all sports and spent many years serving as a coach for the Wayne County Boys Club. Charles always encouraged his children and grandchildren in sports as well as many others and will be remembered by his family as their biggest fan.
Charles tirelessly devoted himself to his wife of 58 years – she was his world and the love of his life. Charles and Mary loved their family and the time they spent with their children and their growing families.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 26, 2018 from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service to celebrate Charles’ life at 10:45 a.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Smeltzer officiating. Interment will follow in the Eastern Carolina State Veteran’s Cemetery with military honors.

Charles is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Averitt Boltinhouse; daughter, Lou Anne Boltinhouse and fiancée, Richard Plue of Raeford; sons, Lester Boltinhouse and wife Beverly of LaGrange and Jeff Boltinhouse and wife Renee of Winterville; brother, Frank Boltinhouse of Fayetteville; ten grandchildren, Mary Beth Hertz (Steven), Kimberly Boltinhouse, Dean Boltinhouse, Lester Douglas Boltinhouse, Sara Boltinhouse, William Boltinhouse (Tori), Jessica Vinson, Krystal Rickels, Catherine Denizo (Nicholas) and Annie Makayla-Lynn Arthur; and four great-grandchildren.

Special thanks to his wonderful neighbors, church friends, and staff of Kitty Askins Hospice Center who cared for him and his family in so many kind and thoughtful ways through the years and during this time of loss.
