Obituary for Henry Franklin Flowers

Henry Franklin Flowers completed his journey home on Friday, November 24, 2017 to the welcoming words, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”

Frank was born in Johnston County on November 2, 1936 to the late Henry Nathaniel Flowers and Nina Peacock Flowers. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and later attended Edwards Military Institute. Frank also attended Elkins School of Electronics where he received his Federal Communications license. Frank came to Goldsboro in 1968 and started Southern Communications where he owned and operated this company until his retirement in 2000. During his communications career, Frank was instrumental in developing a relationship with the Wayne County Fireman’s Association.

Frank received salvation at an early age and answered the call into ministry with the Original Free Will Baptist Church in 1970. He was ordained to preach the gospel in 1971. He gave all of his adult life to the Free Will Baptist denomination, serving twice as pastor of Jackson Heights Free Will Baptist Church and later as pastor of Little Creek Free Will Baptist Church for 26 years. Following his retirement from ministry, Frank continued to serve as an interim pastor for several Free Will Baptist Churches and was a much called upon revival speaker. He also continued to teach at Carolina Bible Institute as well as lead numerous bible studies on Revelations. Frank was active in numerous denominational organizations, as well as serving on the Board of Directors for the Free Will Baptist Press and the Carolina Bible Institute.

Frank was an unusually fine man. He was adored by his family, for whom he was a source of joy and strength, but also by countless others, from old friends to new acquaintances, all of whom were struck by his quiet generosity, his kind and unassuming intelligence, and his innate courteousness. He cherished his wife and was role model to his daughter and grandchildren.

Even in his declining health, Frank continued to exemplify God’s love and a heart for serving others.

A service to celebrate Frank’s life and service to his Lord will be held on Monday, November 27, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of Pleasant Grove Free Will Baptist Church, where he attended and was a member. A private interment for the family will be held on Tuesday in the Kirby Family Cemetery in Kenly. The Flowers family will receive friends on Monday from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall of Pleasant Grove Church and following the service.

Frank is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Jackie Flowers; daughter, Leigh Sanders and husband James; and grandchildren, Tan Sanders and Kelsey Sanders.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to Free Will Baptist Children’s Home, P.O. Box 249, Middlesex, NC 27557; International Foreign Missions, P.O. Box 159, Ayden, NC 28513; or Carolina Bible Institute, P.O. Box 280, Pine Level, NC 27568.
