Obituary for Lucinda Yelverton Dees

Lucinda Yelverton Dees, 70, passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Wayne UNC Hospital after a brief illness.

Cindy was born in Wilson County on June 11, 1947 to the late John Lewis Yelverton and Alice Taylor Padgett. She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Thomas Cooper Dees. Cindy attended Mount Olive College and was a graduate of the Cosmetology School at Lenoir Community College. She owned and operated Dees Mobile Home Park in Goldsboro and formerly had worked as the office manager of the Boy Scouts of America Tuscarora Council.

Her contagious smile and outgoing personality broke down barriers and opened doors to an exciting and fulfilled life. Cindy had a very outgoing personality. She loved to laugh and her laugh was infectious. She was a very caring and compassionate person, was always the first to lend a helping hand, a shoulder to cry on, or an ear to a problem. Cindy enjoyed pulling people together for family gatherings and celebrations. She was the life of the party.

Above all she enjoyed going fishing with Thomas and Ed. She always enjoyed the tug on the line and was always the first to catch a fish. Cindy loved all of her animals but enjoyed riding horses and would often be found on her favorite horse, Santana.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 2, 2017 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service to celebrate Cindy’s life at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel with Rev. Bill Rose officiating. Interment will be in Wayne Memorial Park.

She is survived by her step-son, Thomas “Tommy” Cooper Dees, Jr. of Charleston, SC; and three grandchildren, Phoenix who is serving in the Coast Guard, Isaac who is at the Citadel, and Gavin Dees of Charleston, SC. She is also survived by her special brother, Ed Hardister; sister, Diana Yelverton; special niece, Angela Padgett; and two great-nieces, Luci and Anya.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be given in her memory to Breast Cancer Research in care of the American Cancer Society, 930-B Wellness Drive, Greenville, NC 27834.
