Obituary for Richard Harold Parson

Reverend Richard Harold Parson completed his journey home early Sunday morning to the welcoming words, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”

Richard was born in Beaufort County on December 24, 1931 to the late Rev. Alex Parson and Susan Miller Parson. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Jean Mitchell Parson. Richard answered the call on his life to preach at a young age and served in ministry for over 30 years with the North Carolina Conference of Pentecostal Holiness Church. For many years, Richard also served as a piano technician.

Richard was an unusually fine man. He was loved by his family, for whom he was a source of joy and strength, but also by countless others, from old friends to new acquaintances, all of whom were struck by his quiet generosity, his kind and unassuming intelligence, and his innate courteousness. He cherished his wife and was role model to his daughter and grandchildren. He will be deeply missed.

A service to celebrate the Christian life of Richard will be held on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at St. John Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. James Skinner, Bishop Danny Nelson, and Rev. Bill Rose officiating. The family will greet friends following the service at the church and other times at his home. Interment will be Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Richard is survived his daughter, Ginger P. Connor and husband, Eric of Goldsboro; granddaughters, Erin Connor and Gina Connor; sisters, Lucille Smith of Aurora and Gladys Pilkington of Clayton; brothers, Rev. H.M. Parson of New Bern, Samuel Parsons, Raymond Parson, and Leslie Parson, all of Bridgeton; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by many special friends and family at St. John Pentecostal Holiness Church.

In addition to her wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Parson and sister, Janice Salmon.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to the Missions Department of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church, P.O. Box 270420, Oklahoma City, OK 73137.
