Obituary for William Walter Johnson

William Walter Johnson, also known as “Bill” to his friends, passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2018 in Goldsboro, NC.

He lived a full life that began on March 22, 1928 in Fort Payne, AL. For almost 60 years, he was married to the late Jean (Graver) Johnson who preceded him in death on January 19, 2013.

Bill proudly served our country for 27 and half years, actively engaged in the Korean and Vietnam wars, initially in the Army, then Army Air Force and finally as an officer in the United States Air Force. After getting his wings in 1954, he flew in the B-45 (Tornado) Bomber based out of England, where he met his wife Jean Graver. Once he came back to the US, the majority of his career was engaged as a radar navigator in the B-52 (Stratofortress) Bomber. Upon retiring from the service, he taught Computer Programming at Wayne Community College in Goldsboro, North Carolina for 11 years.

Mr. Johnson will receive a full honors military funeral and graveside services will be held on Friday, March 9, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery (164 Longs Plant Farm Rd, Goldsboro, NC).

Bill is survived by his daughters, Jeannie J. Langnau and Celia A. Pfautz; son, Paul W. Johnson; grandchildren, Kelly Rousseau, Jessica Johnson and Christopher Johnson; and great-grandchildren, Lorelei Rousseau.

Both Bill and Jean Johnson were active supporters of the Red Cross and participated in numerous bloodmobile and educational events. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to your local Red Cross.
