Obituary for Agnes Farfour Harris

Agnes Farfour Harris, 96, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by her family.

Agnes was born in Goldsboro on March 17, 1922, to the late George and Frieda Hakim Farfour. During the war, Agnes volunteered at the USO club where she met Bruce Harris. She was an expert at the jitter bug, and in order for Bruce to date her, he had to learn to dance. Agnes did teach him to dance, and they were married for 53 wonderful years.

Agnes worked in the family businesses in Goldsboro, Neil Joseph's Ladies Wear and Music and Sports, for many years. She was a life-long member of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church where she shared God’s love in many ways, including the Eucharistic Ministry. Agnes also served as the President of the Women’s Bowling League in Goldsboro and was an avid bridge player.

Everyone wanted to visit Agnes because at her house, it felt like home. She was their “Aunt Aggie.” Agnes had a forever smile and sparkling eyes. She was quick to laugh and even quicker to love.

Agnes is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra Harris Shackleford and Robert Steele Shackleford; step-grandchildren, Debra Shackleford Martin and Kimberly Shackleford; brother, Edmund Farfour and wife Joyce; cousin, Marie Louise Joseph Olsen; nieces and nephews, Kenny Farfour, Allen Farfour, Rick Farfour, Frieda Farfour Brown, Leslie Farfour Jr., Helen Farfour, Philip A. Baddour Jr., Richard A. Baddour, Stephen Baddour and Neil J. Baddour; and several great nieces and nephews she loved very much.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Leslie Farfour and John Allen Farfour; and sister, Louise Farfour Baddour.

The family would like to give a very special thank you to the wonderful in-home caregivers she had including: Nina, whom she loved as a sister and dear friend, Sherry, Sybil, Angelica and Crystal for the love and care they provided for Agnes in her home. Simple words cannot express our gratitude. Also a special thank you to the staff at Kitty Askins Hospice Center who provided wonderful care during her final days.

A vigil prayer service will be held at 5 p.m. on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Seymour Funeral Home, 1300 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home until 7:00 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 23, 2018 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 1000 N. Jefferson Avenue, Goldsboro, NC. Burial will follow in Willow Dale Cemetery.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church, 1603 Edgerton Street, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.
