Obituary for Denver R. Mitchell

Denver R. Mitchell, 93, passed away on Monday, July 29, 2019 in Fort Mills, South Carolina, surrounded by his family.

Denver was born in Wayne County on August 22, 1925 to the late Floyd M. Mitchell and Lola Estelle Dail Mitchell. He was married to the late Mary Lancaster Mitchell. Denver retired from the United States Postal Service and helped establish the Goldsboro Postal Credit Union. He lived a life of dedication to God, his family, friends, and to his community. He served his community many ways, including but not limited to, being a member of Goldsboro Lions Club, Gideons International, and a board member of the Credit Union National Association. He also served as a Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 18 and as a volunteer with the Goldsboro Rescue Squad.

A graveside service for the family will be held on Sunday, August 4, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in Wayne Memorial Park.

Denver is survived by his son, Thomas Denver Mitchell; daughters, Marilyn Jo Johnson and husband Don of Charlotte, Marsha Mitchell Hamilton and husband Ray of Goldsboro; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to Gideons International, Goldsboro North Camp, P.O. Box 10093, Goldsboro, NC 27532.
