Obituary for Franklin Dewitt Pate

Goldsboro – Franklin Dewitt Pate, 85, passed away on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at Wayne UNC Healthcare while surrounded by his family.

Frank was born in Wayne County on June 5, 1933 to the late Handley Franklin Pate and Irene Amerson Pate. He was a valued employee of Patetown-Dixie for over 41 years. Frank proudly served his country in the United States Army.

Frank lived a life of dedication to his family and friends, and to his community. He served his community many ways and was a member of Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church. Frank was also a member of the Wayne Masonic Lodge #112 A.F. & A.M. as well as a Mason and a Shriner.

The family will receive friends on Monday, October 1, 2018 from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. Barry Williamson and Rev. Josh Whitfield officiating. The family will also receive friends following the service at the funeral home and at other times at the home. Interment will be on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in Wayne Memorial Park with military honors.

Frank is survived by his wife 64 years, Edna Howell Pate; son, Duane Pate and wife Stephanie Stallings; son-in-law, Russell Lee Brantley; grandchildren, Meghan Bailey, Kaleb Pate, and Christopher Lee Brantley; brothers, Brooks Pate and H.F. Pate, Jr.; and sisters, Suzanne Pate, Sara Rollins and Linda Pate.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Debra Brantley; grandson, Shelby Ray Pate; brother, Handley Thomas Pate; and sister, Alma Lewis.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church, 752 Stoney Creek Church Road, Goldsboro, NC 27534 or to the charity of one’s choice.

The family would like to give a very special thank you to the wonderful staff on the 6th floor as well as the ICU Unit at Wayne UNC Healthcare for the love and care they provided for Frank during his final days. Simple words cannot express our gratitude.
