Obituary for Homer Simpson Naylor

Homer Simpson Naylor, 82, went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 31, 2018, while surrounded by his family.

Homer was born in Fayetteville, North Carolina on April 7, 1936 to the late Eddie Clarence Naylor and Roxie Spell Naylor. He lived his dream proudly serving his country in the United States Air Force. Homer will always be remembered for his incredible wisdom, his wonderful sense of humor and his patriotism. His valor and skills were recognized with numerous awards and decorations. Homer retired after 21 years of faithful service to our country with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant.

Following his military career, Homer began working with Wayne Memorial Hospital and proudly served the hospital community for 21 years. Following his retirement from Wayne Memorial, he continued to volunteer countless hours at the hospital. Homer demonstrated through his actions how to love and treat everyone, regardless of position, with grace and dignity. He never met a stranger and somehow found a way to deliver sage advice blended with humor to each family member and friend. Homer also lived a life of dedication to his community serving 29 years as a founding member of the Waynesborough Kiwanis Club and as an Elected Board member of the Wayne Water Districts.

Homer dedicated his life to unselfishly serving his family and the Lord. As a member of Oak Forest Church of Christ, he served many members sharing the love of God. Homer was always on call to give an encouraging word or helping hand. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking and hosting pig pickins. He was always most proud of his family. Homer will be missed but will be greatly remembered.

A service to celebrate Homer’s life will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in Oak Forest Church of Christ with Minister Robert Goff and Minister Lennie Reagan presiding. A committal service will follow at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 4, 2019 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at their home in Goldsboro.
