Obituary for Leslie Edward Davis

Leslie Edward Davis, 90, went to be with his Lord early Tuesday morning at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by his family. His wife of 64 years, Grace Gardner Davis, would have been celebrating her birthday on this day so the family finds comfort in knowing that she received a great gift this morning as they were reunited again.

Leslie was born in Wayne County on October 18, 1928 to Dillard and Sadie Ferrell Davis. He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace, on September 25, 2013. Leslie had been a member of Free Chapel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church for over fifty years. In 2001, he became a member of The First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Goldsboro. He was devoted to his church and loved building sets for Judgement House and with the Kingdom Builders.

Leslie built houses with E.N. Troutman, W. Paul Herring, and later started his own business, Leslie E. Davis General Contractor, until his retirement in 1990. He was well known for the impeccable houses he would build.

A celebration of Leslie’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 1, 2019 at The First Pentecostal Holiness Church with Pastor Bill Rose officiating. The family will greet friends immediately following the service in the front lobby of the church. A private interment for the family will be held in the Pikeville Cemetery following the service and visitation. At other times, the family will be at his son’s home, 1596 Mount Carmel Church Road, Pikeville.

Leslie is survived by his son, Ricky M. Davis and wife Donna of Pikeville; daughters, Ginny Davis Smith and husband David of Wilmington, and Robin Davis Aycock and husband Walton of Princeton; his grandchildren: Jill Davis Gunter and husband Van, Timothy Davis and wife Stephanie, Hannah Aycock Niemasz and husband Jon, Jenna Aycock Sippy and husband Wyatt, Matthew Smith and Anna Grace Smith; and great-grandchildren: Tyler Davis, Payton Gunter, Addison Gunter, Kyle Davis, Brennan Gunter, Gracelyn Niemasz, and was awaiting the arrival of Everly Sippy and Asher Sippy. He is also survived by three step-grandchildren and six step great-grandchildren; as well as his sister, Linda Davis Smith and brothers, Ray Davis, Royce Davis, Connie Davis and Dearl Davis.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his infant sons, Leslie Edward Davis, Jr., Leslie Warren Davis, and Leslie Darren Davis; sister, Velda Davis Anderson and brothers, Rudolph Davis and Kenneth Davis.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The First Pentecostal Holiness Church, 1100 The First Church Road, Goldsboro, NC 27534 or to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, NC 27534.
