Obituary for W. Milton Hendrixson

W. Milton Hendrixson (Jr.) of Cypress Glen Retirement Community in Greenville, NC passed away at the age of 98 on January 3, 2018. He was born in Georgetown, Ohio to Wilbur M. Hendrixson (Sr.) and Edna Liming Hendrixson. He spent much of his early life in Marietta, Ohio. He attended Marietta College and graduated from Fenn College (now Cleveland State University) with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He also went for further education in animal nutrition.

He began his career in Ohio working for Kentucky Chemical, which became Provico Feeds in Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1958 he moved his family to Winchester, Kentucky where he worked for Browning Turkey Farms, a company that hatched, raised, and processed turkeys. In 1967 he moved to Goldsboro, North Carolina to work for Goldsboro Milling Company where he was a nutritionist. He continued to work well into his retirement years.

Milton was inducted into the North Carolina Poultry Hall of Fame in 2010.

Milt was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Goldsboro where he has served a Deacon and Elder. He was on the committee to establish the Kirkwood Retirement Community and served on the board.

He also had been a member of the Kiwanis Club in Winchester, Kentucky where he served as president, and Goldsboro, NC. He has been a member of the Madisonville-Madeira–Mariemont Masonic Lodge 419, Cincinnati, Ohio since 1947.

He was a longtime member of the Walnut Creek Country Club and enjoyed playing golf into his late 80’s.

He enjoyed his family, travel, golf, fishing, raising roses, and meeting new people. He also enjoyed learning a good joke to tell. One of his joys was giving away his roses to those he knew for their enjoyment or to be used for special events. His refrigerator was often full of roses he was saving for someone who had a party planned or for special friends and family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife and love of his life, Bessie B. Davis Hendrixson (1990); his son, Owen D. Hendrixson; sister, M. Elaine Hendrixson McFarland; and brother, Lewis O. Hendrixson.

He is survived by his daughters, Marilyn Kerns and husband, Jerry, of Nashville, IN; Holly Dozier and husband, Gerry, of Goldsboro, NC; daughter-in-law, Marsha Nestor Hendrixson of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Scott Dozier and wife, Arielle of Raleigh, NC, Jeffrey Dozier and wife, Cassie of Greenville, NC; great-grandchildren, Madelyn Dozier, Lillian (Lily) Dozier, Rhys Dozier and Iris Dozier; several nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Margorie Davis Egger.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff and physicians at Cypress Glen for their exceptional care over the last few months, Aseracare Hospice, and a very special thank you to his primary care physician over the last 5 and half years, Dr. Gary Levine.

Graveside services will be held Friday January 12 at 2:00 p.m. at Wayne Memorial Park, Dudley, NC with Rev. Dr. Bob Bardin officiating. The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter, Holly Dozier, Thursday, January 11, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. – 7 p.m. and at other times.
