Obituary for George Dalton Dove

George Dalton Dove, 94, formerly of Kenansville, passed from this world on Friday, May 24, 2019 at Wayne UNC Healthcare.

George was born in Alexandria, Virginia on November 22, 1924 to the late George Edward Dove and Mary Emma Peverill Dove. He was married for 57 years to the late Helen Jeweldeen Dove (Linson) of Centerburg, Ohio. George enlisted in the US Navy at the age of 17 and served during WWII. Following the war George attended Virginia Tech and graduated with a BS in Geology. He then attended the University of Iowa where he obtained his masters in Geology. He worked in Ohio for the US Geological survey and wrote several books on the topography of the Ohio region. He met Helen in Columbus, Ohio and they married in 1957.
George went back to school and obtained his law degree from Franklin University in Columbus, Ohio. George worked as an attorney in Mt.Vernon and later became the Probate/Juvenile judge for Knox County. George and Jewelly raised their family of 5 on a beautiful farm in Mt.Vernon, Ohio. They later moved to a small farm in Kenansville, NC where they lived for 26 years. During their time in Kenansville George and Helen attended Grove Presbyterian church. In 2017 George moved to Goldsboro, NC where he lived independently until his death.

George is survived by his children, DeLon Dove and wife Lisa of Cary, Douglas Dove and wife Lisa of Cary, Dalton Dove and wife Liz of Goldsboro, Jarma D. Stevens and husband David of Lenoir, and Kristy Leiter and husband Jeff of Eden, Ohio; brother, Paul Dove and wife Diane; and 17 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren he loved very much.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Edward Dove.

George knew and loved God. He taught his children what it meant to live a Christian life by faith and trust in Jesus Christ, and life everlasting.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest gifts in his memory be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital @ www.stjude.org

A graveside service will take place at a future date.
