Obituary for Allen Kader Thompson

Allen Kader “Buck” Thompson, 97, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 22, 2019 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by his family.

Buck was born in Wayne County on May 28, 1922 to the late Grover Cleveland Thompson and Kitty Leaura Stith Thompson. He was married for 77 years to the late Margaret (Odelle) Jones Thompson. Buck proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard during World War II. For over 30 years, Buck operated Buck’s Restaurant in Pikeville. In 1973, he founded and was the owner of Bucks Fire Extinguishing Service. He was a member of St. Joseph United Methodist Church.

Buck was a true sportsman, most comfortable outdoors. He was a hunter of big and small game and loved walking in the woods and fields with a gun. We will remember him most for his embodiment of gentleness, grace, and selflessness, and his compelling inspiration to be the same. He was a good friend, a great father and had a generous heart. He provided a wonderful home for his family and gave all he could to his family and strangers alike.

A service to celebrate his life will be at 2 pm Wednesday, at St. Joseph United Methodist Church in Pikeville with Reverend Rose Hicks officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Pikeville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Tuesday at Seymour Funeral Home.

Buck is survived by his son, Richard Lynn “Dickie” Thompson and wife Diane of Garner; daughters-in-law, Donna Thompson of Saulston and Sandra Thompson of Fuquay Varina; grandchildren, Christopher Thompson, Sonya Voyles, Emily Brooke Thompson and Erin LeGrand; and 7 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, A.K. Thompson, Jr. and Ronnie Thompson; sisters Dixie Barnes, Louise Williams, Margie Rich, and Mary Bradley; and brothers, Deorman Thompson, G.C. Thompson, and James Oscar Thompson.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to St. Joseph United Methodist Church, 200 W Church St, Pikeville, NC 27863, or to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, NC 27534.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.seymourfuneralhome.com.
